The Sound Machine
The plot of the story is how Klausner built a sound machine to listen to sound that humans can’t hear. He built the machine in his shed and one day his doctor came to visit him and asked what was he doing. Klausner explained that he want to listen to a world of sound that cannot be heard like the sound of a fly. Klausner took the machine out into the garden to test it, and said that the rose made a screaming sound when his next door neighbor cut it. He took the machine to a park and cut into a tree and heard the sound of it. The discussion of action is when Klausner wanted Dr. Scott to hear the sound of the tree, but instead the tree fell down when he struck it again with an axe. He got angry when Dr. Scott said he did not hear anything and now the machine was broken because the tree fell on it. The characters are Klausner who is a crazy man that wanted to listen to “Sound vibrations that are too high-pitched for reception by the human ear, and to convert them to a scale of audible tones.” Dr. Scott is Klausner’s psychiatrist because the man is crazy. Mrs. Saunders is the next door neighbor and think that Klausner is crazy when he said the rose’s are screaming when she cut them. The plot twist is that the machine is destroyed by the tree because Klausner cut it down. The three literary elements is irony because sound machine he built was destroy by chopping down the tree, which really makes a sound anyway. The imagery of Klausner is so crazy standing in the middle of a park with an axe in his hands forcing Dr. Scott to put iodine on the tree that he chopped down. Foreshadowing is the sound machine that he built, he is the one that destroyed it. The rating is 3/5 because the Klausner is sick.
